What can I do if mold is forming in my Pitcher or Carafe?Updated 24 days ago
Mold growth is common in pitchers and carafes when moisture is trapped in components, especially in areas like the lid, gasket, or filter housing. Proper maintenance is important to prevent buildup in the future.
Prevention tips:
- Empty and refill your pitcher every 2-3 days, even if not fully consumed
- Clean weekly with warm soapy water and dry thoroughly
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight
- Replace filters according to usage guidelines
- Ensure all parts are completely dry before storage when not in use
If mold has developed, we recommend thoroughly cleaning with warm soapy water or a vinegar solution.
Deep Cleaning Process:
- Disassemble completely - Remove all removable parts, including the lid, filter, and any rubber seals or gaskets
- Initial rinse - Rinse all components with hot water to remove loose debris
- Deep clean solution- Create a cleaning mixture using one of these options:
- 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts hot water
- 1 tablespoon baking soda per cup of hot water
- A diluted bleach solution (1 teaspoon per gallon of water)
- Soak thoroughly - Let all parts soak for 15-30 minutes, paying special attention to crevices and hard-to-reach areas
- Scrub gently - Use a soft brush or cloth to scrub all surfaces, including threads and grooves
- Rinse completely - Rinse multiple times with clean water to remove all cleaning residue
- Air dry fully - Allow all components to air dry completely before reassembling
